Coaching is a personalized service that's highly tailored to your needs, so no two experiences will be the same.
That said, you can expect to start by taking stock of your goals, needs, and current challenges. We'll work together to identify options and solutions to help you reach your individual goals. Depending on your specific situation, that might include practicing new skills, trying things out between sessions, spending time on reflection and clarification, and more.

I work out of Valencia, Spain, but my coaching practice is currently virtual only. I work with clients in North America, Europe, and anywhere around the world. Anywhere we can make the time zones work!
Dr. Maya Coaching OĆ is registered in Estonia. (Why? My current telework visa doesn't allow me to register a business in Spain. Estonia is an EU member country that allows small virtual businesses like mine to set up an e-residency.)

I bring 15 years of experience as a clinical psychologist to my coaching practice. That means I have deep expertise in helping people make changes in their lives and reach their goals. I take a mental health-informed approach to coaching, to support your mental and emotional wellness throughout your journey abroad.
I also bring my lived experience as an immigrant in Spain, and a lifetime of experience as the child of an immigrant Filipino family in the US to my work.

As a coach and a therapist, it's important for me to draw a clear line between the two.
Coaching is a non-clinical service. My goal as a coach is to support your mental health and wellbeing by helping you reach your goals, build upon your strengths, and remove barriers that are getting in the way of your best life abroad. The scope of service is limited to supporting your wellbeing.
Therapy is a clinical healthcare service that can include the treatment of mental health disorders in addition to more general problems of living. Although I may sometimes incorporate coaching techniques and strategies as part my overall therapy work, the reverse is not true. I do not use therapy-specific interventions or approaches as a coach. I am never diagnosing or treating mental health problems in the course of coaching.
Should a coaching client require treatment of a diagnosable mental health condition, I will help refer them to the appropriate medical or mental health resources to support their care.

I offer a variety of packages to support short-, medium- and longer-term needs. This allows me to offer services at a discounted rate per session. There is also an option to attend a one-off, longer session to address one specific question.

It is not unusual for employers to offer coaching as a health and wellness benefit for employees. If you are moving abroad for work, your employer may be willing to cover the cost of our sessions together.
Ask your employer about coaching benefits and their process for approving them. I am happy to provide documentation or an explanation of the services I offer to facilitate that process.

I work with people moving or living abroad, at any stage of that transition. My clients are primarily English speakers based in North America and Europe, although I welcome people from anywhere we can work out the time zones.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I strive to create a welcoming and safe space for everyone.
