You don't have to walk this path alone.

I'm here to help you thrive abroad.

Meet Dr. Maya Borgueta

Living abroad is full of beautiful moments, and plenty of challenges.

My own life abroad began in 2023, when I relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area in California to Valencia, Spain. The pandemic had forced my psychotherapy practice online, and I suddenly realized I could work from anywhere. My lifelong dream of living abroad—one that had seemed like a fantasy—suddenly became dizzyingly plausible.

I chose Spain for its beautiful culture, progressive social values, and reputation for being a place where work-life balance is the norm. And I chose Valencia specifically for its walkability, accessibility, and 300+ days of sunshine.

It's been all those things, and I love living here. But that doesn't mean living abroad isn't still a struggle sometimes. Adjusting to a new language, cultural differences, and rebuilding a community from scratch isn't easy.

I became a coach so that I could help other English-speaking immigrants, nomads, and international residents navigate the ups and downs of life abroad with more ease and confidence. I support my clients’ mental health and wellbeing through every stage of life abroad, from making a decision to move, to long-term adjustment and integration.

In addition to my coaching practice, I continue to work as a licensed clinical psychologist providing online therapy in California and New York. That expertise informs my work as a coach, providing me a deep understanding of mental and emotional wellness through transitions big and small. My own lived experience as an immigrant in Spain (and as the daughter of a Filipino immigrant family in the US) gives me perspective on the unexpected ways life abroad challenges us.

Outside of work, I'm a proud cat mom, a lover of music and the arts, an amateur painter, and a voracious reader of sci-fi and fantasy. I volunteer as an event host for our local chapter of Girl Gone International, an organization that helps women and nonbinary folks meet friends while living abroad. I'm not sure where my life might take me down the road, but for now, I'm settling into life in Valencia for the long term and working towards earning my Spanish nationality. Grateful for being a part of this beautiful city!
